![]() It was a fun read with some doses of heavy. ![]() The story developed well, was easy to follow, and ended well. Seeing her vulnerability made me appreciate the character a bit more and Lewis’ parents like him were a gem. ![]() She owned all of her emotions and I loved to see it.Īnother scene that I liked was when she was introduced to Lewis’ parents over dinner and her mum was invited. 'Selling Sunset' newbie Nicole Young is feeling some serious fallout from her feud with costar Chrishell Stause - we're told Nicole's getting brutal death threats, now. I don’t know why but I found it empowering. My favorite scene is easily when Ayumi marked her territory and told her ex-friend off. Their friends showed up for them and I enjoyed seeing it. Lastly, I loved the glimpses of strong friendship bonds that were featured in the story. ![]() I found that realistic and something readers could relate to based on personal experiences. The story touched on Ayumi’s reluctance to connect emotionally and Lewis’ willingness to commit in spite of his fear of being burnt. Additionally, their chemistry and banter were really beautiful. After it transitioned to a monogamous relationship, I adored it more. What’s more attractive than that? I loved the relationship between her and Lewis when it was friends with benefits. ![]() She was the G.O.A.T., and she was also fun, feisty, sexy, confident, and knew her worth. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Still, being romances, they all end with a happily ever after. Contemporary royal romance novels deal with many of the pitfalls of modern royal life, including invasion of privacy, racism, sexism, and more issues. How could you not swoon over the M&M's pizza she sends Michael? I've been a devoted follower of the genre ever since, though it has evolved in the two decades since Cabot first published her novel about the awkward teen princess. Samantha 'Sam' Madison is still teen ambassador to the United Nations and happily dating the Presidents son, David. Perhaps my love for royal romances began with the 2001 Disney adaptation of Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries, the story of Mia Thermopolis, who finds out she’s a princess of the far-off land of Genovia. Ready or Not is the sequel to the novel All-American Girl. Both were written by Meg Cabot, who is also the author of The Princess Diaries. The book takes place about one year after the events of All-American Girl. My personal favorite type of romance novel? Besides the enemies-to-lovers genre, which I can never resist, royal romances. Essentially: Romance is a genre for all seasons. there's also nothing better than cracking open a steamy read by the fireplace in the winter, or sitting in the park with a romance under blossoming trees in the spring, or paging through a story in the crisp, cool air in the fall. ![]() There's nothing better than reading a romance novel on the beach, without a care in the world, and getting lost in a story with a guaranteed happily ever after as waves crash in the background. ![]() ![]() This entry was posted in Uncategorized on by george. CHAOS ON CATNET From the CatNet series, Vol. ![]() Chaos on CatNet has just been published and I enjoyed this sequel just as much as the original novel. ![]() ![]() I really enjoyed Catfishing on CatNet (2019) which won an Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery (you can read my review here). ![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve never been able to understand the intensity of their aversion, but such is life. I have good friends who share my taste for mysteries and crime fiction more generally but who simply can’t stand Miss Marple. Indeed, Hickson channeled Christie’s creation to an uncanny degree: the spinster Jane Marple living in the village of St Mary Mead, gardening, knitting, faithfully going to church, observing all that goes on with her compassionate but steely intelligence. Like many readers of our generation, Wendy and I see the actress Joan Hickson in our mind’s eye whenever we are reading about Miss Marple. I suspect that the vast majority of fans will enjoy this high-spirited volume, loaded as it is with allusions to the canonical novels and stories. The book begins with a generic uncredited introduction, which doesn’t inspire confidence, but the stories themselves are generally good. The dozen authors represented are all women, most of them best-selling writers irritatingly, no editor is identified. ![]() ![]() Simply titled (rather cheekily) Marple, on the front cover it’s subtitled Twelve New Mysteries on the title page, inside the book, it’s Twelve New Stories. On September 6, we got a new biography to dig into-Lucy Worsley’s Agatha Christie: An Elusive Woman-and now, on top of that, we have a tribute to the incomparable Miss Marple. Admirers of Agatha Christie have much to be thankful for this month. ![]() ![]() ![]() In a Strange Room – which was shortlisted for the Booker in 2010, and is by far Galgut’s best novel – is an autofiction in which a man named Damon goes on three journeys in Europe, Africa and India, bearing his nationality like a stain on his back. ![]() In The Good Doctor, which was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 2003, a cynical South African doctor is challenged by a naively ideological new colleague. ![]() Since the mid 1990s, he has been more willing directly to tackle the legacies of apartheid in his fiction. Both A Sinless Season (1982), a novel of boyhood cruelty set in a young offenders’ prison (Galgut has since disavowed it), and the novella which formed the backbone of his collection Small Circle of Beings (1988) – a stark domestic miniature about a mother caring for her ill child – were precocious and emotionally perceptive, but neither seemed particularly interested in the world outside themselves. ![]() His early works were sometimes criticised – like Adam’s poetry – for abnegating their moral responsibilities. The fall of apartheid promised to give South African novelists licence to write, as Galgut said in an interview in 2003, about “things like love … which would have been considered slightly immoral as a theme until apartheid crashed”, but his own novels have only become more politically engaged over the course of his career. ![]() ![]() ![]() And so, we’re beginning to question the assumption that a steady stream of more and newer tech in our lives is an unqualifiedly good thing.
